Bird Statuettes
We've been learning about different sculpture techniques. We constructed armatures for the birds out of wire and covered the wire with plaster-coated gauze. I love these colorful and creative birds!
Printmaking
Students learned about relief printmaking by carving skylines into foam. The image was printed twice in order to create the skyline and a faint reflection in the water below it. We had lots of fun doing this and learned important printmaking vocabulary too. I photographed the prints in groups by class. Each print is so unique. I bet the students will have no problem finding their masterpiece. Great job everyone!
Owl update
The owls are painted and varnished, and they look wonderful. However, they are very hard to photograph. Here are few images; but, they are even more delightful in person.
Watercolor trees
In this project, we explored drawing from observation, positive/negative space, balance and watercolor effects. We had fun adding salt and rubbing alcohol to the paint and learned ways to control watercolors while also enjoying their spontaneity.
Modigliani portraits
Inspired by the art work of Amedeo Modigliani, we created portraits using oil pastels. The lesson focused on proportion and color blending. I love the brilliant colors of the oil pastels, and I'm always amazed by my students' wonderful creativity.
Clay owls
We started our second, big project - clay owls, and I love every one. We are learning about additive sculpture and texture. The owls will dry for a few weeks, and then we will paint and varnish them. I'll add more pictures then.
Fall classes begin on August 29, 2013. I'm looking forward to it! Below are some photographs of the Spring Art Show.

Students did a great job on the last project, castles. I wish I had photographed all of them. | | | | |
Project #2: Faux Stained Glass
Using combinations of acrylic paint and glue, students painted on glass to mimic the look of stained glass. I'm looking forward to displaying these on Family Night. The students did a fantastic job. The paintings were very hard to photograph because of reflections and glare. Please overlook the weird angles.

Project #1: RADIAL BALANCE
Inspired by Medieval rose windows, students drew radial designs that start on a cd and continue onto paper. I think everyone did a wonderful job!!!!!!
